It is with love and sadness that we announce the death of Mary Loree Benton, 83, of Mint Hill, on Friday, July 30, 2010. She was born September 8, 1926 in Charlotte, NC, a daughter of the late Luther William and Mary Hagler Mullis.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 2, at Wilson Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Grant Hoffman and the Rev. Joe Mullis officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Sunday at McEwen, Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road.
Loree was a hairdresser for over 50 years and owned Loree’s Beauty Shop. She was very devoted to her family and enjoyed cooking, vegetable and flower gardening and spending time at the beach. She was a longtime member of Wilson Grove Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society. Mrs. Benton was preceded in death on February 25, 2007 by her loving husband of 59 years, Matthew Turner Benton. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine E. Smith and two brothers, Paul L. Mullis and Larry Wayne Mullis.
She is survived by her son, Michael T. Benton and wife, Vickie, of Mint Hill; two grandchildren, Amy Benton Chewning and husband, Lee, of Clemmons, NC and Jeff Benton of Charlotte; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Jill Chewning. She is also survived by her sister, Delane Curlee and husband, Hurley, of Charlotte; and three brothers, Ralph A. Mullis of Mint Hill, William R. Mullis and wife, Bonnie, and Boyce R. Mullis and wife, Tempie, all of Monroe; along with numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
