Mullis, Albert Cecil

Albert Cecil Mullis

Mr. Mullis, 84, of Charlotte, NC, received ‘his one way ticket to the sky’ to join his beloved Ava Baucom Mullis on Sunday, January 9, 2011.

He was born October 21, 1926 in Union County, NC, a son of the late Marshall Winfred Mullis and Hettie Idella Griffin Mullis.

At age 13, he began playing the guitar and writing songs which he first recorded while serving the Army in occupied Japan during World War II. He was a great lover of bluegrass gospel. Cecil played and sang with ‘The Gumbranch Partners’ for many years. He retired from Merita Bakery where he worked as a Mechanical Engineer.

As a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist and later, Hoskins Avenue Baptist Church, he also worshipped and praised our Lord Jesus Christ with his beautiful voice and guitar.

In addition to bluegrass music, Cecil and Ava loved gardening, yard sales, cats, going out to eat and talking about Jesus with their many friends and family members.

The family will greet friends from 11:00 AM until noon Saturday, January 15, 2011 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Mullis will be held at 12 noon in the Chapel with The Reverend John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Sharon Memorial Park. Bearing the casket of Mr. Mullis will be Larry Tarlton, Dale Tarlton, Phillip Tarlton, Ken Love, Randy Pressley and Richard Farris.
