Mr. Darrell Lee Combs, 56, of Hwy. 194 North, Boone, died Sunday night, July 31, 2005, at Watauga Medical Center.
He was born in Ashe County, May 2, 1949, a son of the late Columbus Combs and Myrtle Jean Mullis Earp.
Mr. Combs was a member of Bairds Creek Baptist Church and had worked as a forklift operator for both Broyhill and Singer Furniture.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Richards Combs; two sons, Darren Combs of Boone and James Combs of Greensboro; one grandson, Dakota Johnson of Lenoir; his mother, Myrtle Earp of Vilas; three sisters, Marie Earp of Vilas, Rosa Lee Guy and Carolyn Beaver, both of Lenoir; one step-sister, Melinda Ward, and one step-brother, Charlie Arnette, both of Vilas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Columbus Combs; and his step-father, Clyde Arnette.
Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Melvin Hodges and the Rev. Dan Church. Burial will follow in the Jont Brown Cemetery.
The family received friends Tuesday evening from 6-7:30 at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
