Division II high school girls sectional tennis tournament play begins today for area singles and doubles players.
Singles
play opens at 8:30 a.m. at Struthers High School. Doubles action begins
at 8:15 at the Volney Rogers courts in Youngstown.
Semifinals and finals matches are scheduled at 9 a.m. Saturday at Canfield High School.
The
top four individual seeds are Mariah Mostardi (Ravenna), Alyssa Tom
(Poland), Marissa Nocera (John F. Kennedy) and Brianne Thomas (Cardinal
Mooney).
Mostardi and Tom qualified for the district tournament last year.
Poland’s
tandem of Megan Bennett and Jessica Mullis is the top-seeded doubles
pairing, followed by Cardinal Mooney’s Jaclyn Di Domenico and Allison
St. George and Poland’s Alexa Marino and Danielle Mullis. John F.
Kennedy’s Alison Rossi and Gina Fredericka are the sectional
tournament’s fourth-seeded doubles team.
Bennett and Jessica
Mullis qualified for the state tournament last year. Rossi and
Fredericka were district qualifiers in doubles play last year. Marino
was a district doubles qualifier — with a different partner — a year
ago.
