ANNAPOLIS – An Odenton man has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for driving under the influence of alcohol and killing a motorcyclist last year.

Tuan Nordrum, 43, of North Patuxent Road, pleaded guilty in April to manslaughter in the July 2008 accident.

Judge Paul A. Hackner Thursday sentenced Nordrum to 10 years, but suspended five of them. He also ordered him to pay $5,714.93 to the victim’s family.

Prosecutors said Nordrum was drunk July 12 when he cut off a motorcycle driven by Anthony Wayne Mullis, 34, of Severn.

Police said Nordrum was driving a Chevrolet Astro van west on Old Mill Road at Telegraph Road at about 6:30 p.m. when he ran a stop sign and collided with Mullis. Mullis hit his head in the wreck and was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He died later that night.

Police found Nordrum had a blood-alcohol content of .19 – more than double the legal limit to drive in Maryland.
