Joseph Wilbon Mullis

August 12, 1927 – October 18, 2012

 Cochran – Joseph Wilbon Mullis, age 85, died Thursday in the Bleckley Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Mathis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Mullis, was born in Dodge County, retired from the US Coast Guard and returned to Cochran with his family in 1967. He was the son of the late Joseph Bunion and Ina Mae Dykes Mullis and was preceded in death by his loving wife and best friend Mary Nell Holland Mullis. He was preceded in death by his brother Dick Mullis and his sister Gertrude Giddens Self. He was a US Army Veteran, retired from the US Coast Guard and Robins Air Force Base. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman.

Survivors are his children, Donnie (Cheryl) Mullis, Jan (Don) Smith , Ronnie Mullis and Robbie Mullis of Cochran; grandchildren, Shane and Jennifer, Dusty and Ashley, JoJo, Dawn and Chuck; great grandchildren, Hannah, Trip, Matt, Luke and Charlie; brother, Cotton (Pat) Mullis of Cochran; sisters, Gladys Dempsey of Warner Robins and Grace Holland of Fort Valley.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in honor of Trip Mullis to The Children’s Heart Foundation, PO Box 244 Lincolnshire, IL 60069-0244.

The family is at 251 Vernon Road and will greet friends following the service Saturday at Mathis Funeral Home.
