Martha Frances Durr

(September 14, 1931 – January 18, 2012)

Martha Frances Durr, 8o, passed away on January 18, 2012 after a lengthy illness surrounded by her family. “Grandma,” as she was affectionately known by all who love her, was the epitome of a Southern Lady. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she was loved by all who knew her. She never met a stranger and her warm heart, loving spirit, quick wit, and contagious smile made all who knew her feel special.

Mrs. Durr was born in Crawford County, Georgia on September 14, 1931. She was the only daughter of Frances Barfield Mullis and Clement Hutto. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 41 years, Andrew H. Durr, Sr. Grandma was a full-time homemaker. She loved her family dearly and nothing made her more proud than being a grandmother.

She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Tripp Yarbrough and Andi and Ray Mitchell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Drew and Julia Durr, and Lonnie and Nancy Willis all of Macon, Georgia. Grandma is survived by ten grandchildren; Caitlin and Colby Yarbrough, Austin Yarbrough Johnston (Blake), Andrew, Haley, and Hillary Durr, Kellie Wilder (Keith), Brant Willis (Amy), Chad Willis (Paige), and Casey Willis (Lycia) and 7 great-grandchildren. Other surviving relatives include a brother, Alvin Hutto, and several cousins whom she loved dearly.

She was a member of Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church and the Nan Freeman Sunday School Class. Mrs. Durr’s Celebration of Life services will be held at Martha Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church, in Macon, at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2011. Interment will be private. Dr. Jay Harris and Dr. Laudis H. Lanford will conduct the services.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Central Georgia for their kindness and loving care of “Grandma” during her lengthy illness. Deepest gratitude is also extended to Thelma Daniels, Mary Binford, Dr. Kim Johnston, Dr. Mufid Othman and his staff, Dr. Juan Esnard and his staff, and Dr. Mark Hendricks and his staff. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Georgia, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia 31210 or The Methodist Children’s Home, Attn. Development Department, P.O. Box 2525, Macon, Georgia 31203. The family will greet friends and family at The Cupola Thursday, January 19 from 6:00 — 8:00 p.m.
