Mildred Mullis, 88, of Alma died Sunday night July 19, at the Bacon County Hospital after a short illness.
She was a native of Chatham County but had lived most of her life in Alma, was daughter of the late John Fortune Shearouse and Elma Louise Shealy Shearouse and was also preceded in death by her husband, Tessell Mullis, Sr., a daughter, Jane M. Daugherty and a brother, John F. Shearouse, Jr. Mildred was very active as a Pink Lady, a Red Hatter, Homemakers Club, Senior Citizens Club, member of Fellowship Four and member of the Alma United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Mullis (Charlie Nell) of St. Mary’s and T. D. Mullis (Kathleen) of Alma, two daughters, Brenda Mullis of Alma, Regina Swinson (Lewis) of Hazlehurst, a former daughter-in-law, Melinda AthaDeckard of Nahunta, three sisters, Nell Hagin, Garden City, Ga. Peny Lane and Julia Lewis both of Thunderbolt, Ga. Also 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 2 p.m. at the Alma United Methodist Church with Rev. Buddy Whatley officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 1 p.m. to lie in state. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening between 6-9 p.m.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Leslie Mullis, Damion and Kevin Daugherty, Cason Swinson, Miguel Del Mazoand David Paul Harmon. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Fellowship Four, members of Senior Citizens Group and all others in attendance.

The greatest memories of my child hood, was spending summers in Alma with “Sister”. We share the sorrow with you. I think the first angel to greet her was Jane.
