Bernice Mullis: a great lady.”
July 16, 2009
Nelson, Tim, Karen & Family,
Words can’t begin to express my sorrow in learning about the loss of your mom. She was one of the most special women I’ve ever had the blessing to know. She will always remain my favorite Sunday School teacher, and I will never forget how kind she was to me at church. I used to love sitting with her and being a “part”, at least in my mind, of the Mullis family on so many Sundays.
I loved sitting next to her in choir and sharing the beautiful harmonies and music that your family made together. God must have a special place in Heaven for families who sing His praises together.
I’ve never shared this story with anyone, and I’m tearing up even as I type, but Mrs. Mullis was so important to me while I was in elementary school. I always felt so left out and unliked, and a day would never go by where she wouldn’t stop what she was doing, give me a hug, and tell me to have a really extra special day. That got me through some hard times. I loved her then and love her now.
I know that she is rejoicing in Heaven now, listening to angels praise her Savior, and watching over each of you. Through good times and bad, she loved each of you so much, and she was so proud of her family.
You are all such an incredibly important part of my childhood and early adult years. There’s no doubt in my mind that you gained much of your love for God and Jesus and your fellow man through the love that your mom showed you.
Please know I’ll be praying for you in the days ahead. May God bless and sustain you.
All my love,
Kara McAbee
