g258000000000000000dac6f695f17ecf88b2fdbed57095a7023012e105VALDOSTA — Marvin B. Mullis Sr., 85, of Valdosta passed away Monday, Dec. 20, 2010 at his residence. He was born on Aug. 25, 1925 in Fitzgerald, Ga. to the late Daniel Lester and Annie Ruth (Feagan) Mullis. Mr. Mullis served in the United States Navy in World War II and the Korean War. He was a self employed insurance agent for over 50 years. He was a member of Grace Community Chapel where he was a deacon. He served as president of the LUTC and CLU, was a Charter Financial Consultant and an Insurance Instructor at Valdosta Technical College. He was an active member of the Valdosta Gideon Chapter, Valdosta Rotary Club, served as President of the Lions Club and served as a volunteer at South Georgia Medical Center and Hospice of South Georgia. He loved playing golf and was active in physical fitness.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Onie Pearl Mullis, a son who was killed during Vietnam, Marvin B. “Tex” Mullis, Jr., a sister and two brothers.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Ray Welch, Moultrie, Bonnie and Jeff Carter, Atlanta, Ruthie and Wesley Gay, Valdosta; sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Sandi Mullis, DuPont, Joe and Pat Mullis, Valdosta; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Emma Mullis, Fla.; sister-in-law, Juanita Johnson Mullis, Valdosta; special friends, Marilyn Ellis, Carole Stembridge Ausum, Christine Gay, Myrna Rainey, all of Valdosta.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 in the Grace Community Chapel with burial to follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Mr. Mullis will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening, Dec. 22, 2010 at the funeral home.
