Mullis, Mary ruth Spears

COLLINSVILLE, Va. – Mary Ruth Spears Mullis, 91, of 164 Cross Road, died Wednesday Nov. 26, 2008 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville.


She was born March 21, 1917 in Cabarrus County to the late William E. and Anna Laura Harrington Spears. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James Tyson Mullis; seven brothers, Sam, Clarence, Frank, Wade, June, Charles, and S.B. Mullis; and three sisters, Etta Widenhouse, Ann McCall, and Lillian Wright. She was retired from DuPont, and was a lifelong member of Smith Memorial United Methodist Church in Collinsville, where she was a member of the Charles Wesley Sunday School Class, a member of the United Methodist Women, and sang in the choir.


She is survived by one daughter, Joanne M. Furr of Concord; two sons, Jimmie Mullis of Collinsville and Ronnie Mullis of Concord; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.


The funeral service will be today at 2 p.m. at Smith Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Tilden Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.


Family received friends on Saturday in the Roselawn Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Bulding Fund of Smith Memorial UMC, P.O. Box 1081, Collinsville, VA 24078 Arrangements are by Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home.
