Opal Malinda Mullis, age 92, of Alma passed away Saturday, July 31, at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness. She was a native of Bacon County and daughter of the late John Pierce and Ruth Deen Pierce. Opal was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl Mullis, three sisters, Bertie Moore, Ola Pierce & Retha Moore, four brothers, I. G., H.U. (Bill), W. J. (Shack), J. R. (Pat) and Daniel Pierce. She worked with Avon Cosmetics for many years and attended Douglas Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Edwin Mullis (Jo Ann) & Jeff Mullis (Peggy) of Alma, two daughters, Faye Smith of Alma & Patricia Lucus (Sidney) of Waycross, one sister, Marie Cochern of Alma, eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, also a special friend, Edna Music of Alma.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 3, at 2 p.m. at Douglas Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Ray and Rev. Tommy Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Douglas Chapel Baptist Church Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be Kit Smith, Arbey Quiceno, Charles & Alex Wills, Dewayne Mullis, Brian & Blake Shuman and Greg Franken. Honorary pallbearers will be The Joy Sunday School Class.
