Mullis, Ruth Bell Hand

DOUGLAS — Ruth Bell Hand Mullis, 97, of Douglas passed away Thursday, August 19, 2004, at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas.

Mrs. Mullis, a native of Jeff Davis County was born July 24, 1907, daughter of the late Willis Jasper and Missouri Ellis Hand. She was a homemaker and widow of Joe Milton Mullis. Her church membership was at Carver Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Survivors include: daughters, Maureen (Gene) Peterson, Myrtlene (Jack) Whitworth, Douglas, Marion Buchingham of Brockport N.Y., JoAnne (Billy) Mayher of Albany; son, Carroll (April) Mullis of Andalusia, AL; sisters, Mary Hall of Alma, Ovella Hinely of Fitzgerald; brother, Wright Hand of Jacksonville, FL; 18 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews also survive. Her son, Milton Mullis preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at Carver Baptist Church at 2 p.m. today with the Rev. Marty Carnes and the Rev. Mike Peterson officiating.

Soloist, great granddaughter, LeAnn Leagans will sing “Medley of Hymns”; also, the Congregation will sing, “Amazing Grace” with Patricia Anderson, Pianist. Burial will follow in Satilla Gardens Cemetery near Douglas.

Active pallbearers will be: Joey Webster, Kenny Bryan, Walt Bryan, Bill Mayher, Curtis Mullis, Lane Leagans, Carroll Mullis II and J.J. Webster.
