Mullis, Susan

MOUNT PLEASANT – Mrs. Susan Horne Mullis, 60, went to be with her Lord
and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, with her family by her side.
She had been in declining health for three years. Funeral services will
be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.
Johnny Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Cabarrus Memorial
Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday
at Wilkinson Funeral Home. Mrs. Mullis was born Oct. 28, 1946 in
Cabarrus County and was the daughter of the late Clifton Horne and
Pauline Stegall Horne. She was also preceded in death by a sister and
three brothers. Susan loved traveling to the mountains and yard sales.
When some of her family became nursing home bound, she began hosting
little holiday parties for the residents and bringing them gifts of
candy and favors. When she saw someone in need, she would try to help
in any way possible. She always put others needs’ first. She is
survived by her loving husband, James L. Mullis, Sr.; a daughter, Angie
Jenkins of Kannapolis; two step-daughters, Linda Haitcox of Lexington
and Debbie Corriher of Mooresville; a beloved son, "Baldy" James
Mullis, Jr. and wife, Sheila of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Mary B.
Kirby of China Grove and Beatrice Hendrick, a resident of Saint Andrews
Living Center in Concord; a brother, Curtis Horne of Mount Pleasant;
seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by
her beloved dog, "Peanut." Memorials may be made to the American Cancer
Society, Cabarrus Chapter, 100 Medical Park Drive, Suite 110, Concord,
