Reba Joyce Mullis, 82, of Cortland, Illinois, died peacefully at her own home, Saturday, December 3, 2011.

Born April 2, 1929, at home in Shabbona Grove, the fourth of five children to Andrew and Mabel (Johnson) Chapman, she married DeLaine J. Mullis on September 24, 1949, and they were blessed with 51 years of marriage.

Reba attended and graduated from Waterman Schools. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a telephone operator; later she worked at the Cortland School in the cafeteria and then worked as a receptionist at Oak Crest Retirement Center in DeKalb. She was a member of the Cortland United Methodist Church and attended the Waterman Presbyterian Church. Reba enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. She, DeLaine and their five children had a vegetable garden every year in the summer. In later years she, DeLaine and their children enjoyed working their apple orchard and visiting with the customers who stopped by. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and she always enjoyed attending functions for her children and grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, two daughters, one daughter-in-law, 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren: Jim (Victoria) Mullis of Jacksonville, Illinois, Jennifer, Dan (Lee), and Katie Mullis, Randy (Suzanne) Mullis of DeKalb, Illinois, Donald (DJ), Randi Lynn and Andrew Mullis, Sandra (Albert) Roloff of Sycamore, Illinois, Joe (Gail), Betsy, Tim, and Elena Roloff, Jill (Pat) Cox of Lee, Illinois, Drew and Tony Adkinson, Carol Mullis of Lombard, Illinois, Brian (Susie) Grainger, April Zimmerman and Karen Mullis; one sister, Wilma Carroll of Waterman; numerous nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, DeLaine in 2000; one son, David; two brothers, Wayne (Jewell) Chapman and Donald (Charlotte) Chapman; one sister, Virginia (Joe) Nix; and her parents.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with the Rev. Christina L. Vosteen of Cortland United Methodist Church and Pastor Sandra Graber officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, at Anderson Funeral Home.
