Sanford Mullis

Sanford “Bro. Sam” Mullis, 75, of Hot Springs passed away into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday evening. He was born January 10th, 1941 in Monroe, North Carolina to Roy and Ola Mae Maples Mullis.

Bro. Sam courageously served our county, having retired from the United States Army. He was highly decorated and fought through three tours of Vietnam. “I fear God and no man.” Bro. Sam lived by this motto. An ordained Southern Baptist Minister, he founded the Perry County Jail Ministry and served as its senior Chaplain. A man of the people; he loved nature, gardening, reading, and spending time with his cherished friends and family.

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Wade Mullis.

 

Cherishing his memory are his wife of 30 years, Rafaela “Rae” Mullis; son Roy A. Mullis of Cleveland, Ohio; and Sebastian C. Mullis, his grandson. His loving aunt, Edith Maples of Junction City, Arkansas also survives him.

 

A celebration of Bro. Sam’s life will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday March 1st, 2016 in the chapel of Gross Funeral Home. Full military honors will be rendered.
