STONE, SALLIE M.

Mrs. Sallie Mae Stone, 83, longtime resident of Archer passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center of Chiefland.

Mrs. Stone was born November 28, 1926, in Cross City, Florida, the oldest child of the late J. W. Mullis and Ozella Carter Mullis Locke. Mrs. Stone was married to Frank Corbin Stone for 51 years until his death in 1995. Mrs. Stone worked for the Gainesville Police Department, the Suwannee Store, in Newberry, where she served on the city council, and as mayor pro temp. She was a member of the Archer United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, and was a member of the U. M. W. She was also a member of the Archer Lions Club. She enjoyed bird watching, baking and sewing, canning, gardening, fishing and was an avid Gator fan. She loved her family and friends, helping everyone she could, including working as a Hospice volunteer. Sallie was very proud of her Cherokee heritage. She was preceded in death by one Brother, Earl Mullis and one Sister, Betty Hartzog, as well as four infant daughters.

She is survived by her daughters, Pat Stone, of Gainesville, Judi (Melvin, Sr.) Asbell, of Williston, and Kimberly Ramsey, of Gainesville; one grandson, Melvin Asbell, Jr., of Gainesville; three brothers, James Mullis and Jesse Mullis, both of Mayo, and Wayne Mullis, of Live Oak; five sisters, Kate Hatch, of Mayo, Allie Corbin and Vonice Land, both of Old Town, Sheila Roberts and Angela Caterna, both of Orlando.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 11:00 A. M., at the Archer United Methodist Church, with her nephew Rev. Dr. Craig Hartzog officiating, and Rev. Kathy Bostrom, church pastor assisting. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Archer. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A. M., at the church. WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd ST. is in charge of all arrangements.
