Theresa Madeline McColgan Mullis, 96 of Charlotte passed away on Tuesday, March 1 at home surrounded by her family. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016 6:00-8:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Basilica, Mary Help of Christians (Belmont Abbey College) on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with the Right Reverend Abbot Oscar Burnett, O.S.B. and the Right Reverend Abbot Placid Solari, O.S.B. Interment will follow the service at Sharon Memorial Park. Mrs. Mullis was born on December 3, 1919 in Jamaica Plain, MA, daughter of the late William McColgan and Anne Porter McColgan. In addition to her parents, her beloved husband, John B. Mullis, daughter, Theresa E. Mullis and son, Joseph C. Mullis also preceded her in passing.
Madeline graduated high school in Jamaica Plain, MA and went on to serve her country in the US Army Signal Corps as a radio operator intercepting and copying Japanese Code. She was a dedicated and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Survivors include children, John T. Mullis and wife Sarah of Germantown, TN, Catherine F. Mullis of Charlotte, Anne Maria Price and husband Robert of Charlotte, Patricia Madeline O’Neill and husband Brian of Roswell, GA and daughter-in-law, Addy Jean Mullis of Charlotte.
Mrs. Mullis is also survived by grandchildren Andrew Mullis, John Colin Mullis, Erin Mullis, Christine Price, Caren Price Saunders, Janet Price Brotzman,William Robert Price, Kathleen Price Pellisero, Constance Mullis, Joseph Connor O’Neill, Caroline O’Neill and Madeline O’Neill; great-grandchildren, Hayden Saunders, Harper Saunders, Marshall Mullis, Sawyer Mullis, Walker Mullis, Margaret Mullis, Molly Mullis and Graham Pellisero. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Holy Angels, P.O. Box 710, Belmont, NC 28012, Joseph Christopher Mullis Scholarship Fund at Belmont Abbey College or The Theresa Eileen Mullis Nursing Scholarship at CPCC in Charlotte.
