Dr. John Wilholt Jr.


DUNLAP — Dr. John L. Wilhoit Jr., 83, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Erlanger Hospital.


He was a member of the Dunlap First Baptist Church. He served as a first lieutenant Army Air Force pilot during World War II, where he flew missions in the Pacific Theater.


Dr. Wilholt practiced dentistry in Dunlap for 37 years. He volunteered at Siskin Hospital. He served as a member of the board of directors of Bledsoe Telephone Corp. for 30 years.


He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Wilhoit Sr.; mother, Mary Ruth Brown Wilhoit; sister, Margaret Wilhoit Sanner.


Survived by his son, John L Wilhoit III, Pikeville, Tenn.; daughter, Kathy (Rick) Cagle, Chattanooga; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren ; former wife, Helen Mullis Beckham Wilhoit, Hawthorne, Fla.; sisters, Mary Wilhoit Wilkey, Chattanooga, Sarah Wilhoit Burkholder, Germantown, Md., Martha Wilhoit Franklin Tallahasee, Fla.


Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. CST Monday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Fred Steelman officiating.


Burial will be at 9 a.m. CST Tuesday in the National Cemetery.
