Tina Pace and Paige Mullis overcame challenges to win Crowley
\nCity Council’s election Saturday.
\n
\nPace, who received 124 votes, resumed her position on the
\ncouncil’s fifth seat when she beat opponent James Dornan, who
\nreceived 60 votes.
\n
\n“I want to thank all the voters,” Pace said.
\n“[The election] was very exciting and humbling all at the
\nsame time. I really appreciate their confidence in me.”
\n
\nRevitalizing Crowley and aiding in the city’s growth will
\ncontinue to be priorities for Pace, she said.
\n
\nShe looks forward to working alongside Mullis, who shares her
\nvision, she said.
\n
\n“She has a heart for growth and a heart for Crowley,”
\nPace said of Mullis.
\n
\nPace was also excited the race was contested because when she ran
\nfor council the first time, she ran unopposed.
\n
\n“Having an opponent was very exciting,” she said.
\n
\nOpponent Dornan did not comment on the race.
\n
\nMeanwhile, the race for the council’s sixth seat yielded 124
\nvotes for Mullis and 65 for opponent Mike Flynn.
\n
\n“I want to thank everybody who voted in this election. I am
\nvery excited to be on city council, and I am looking forward to
\nworking with the mayor and city council,” Mullis said.
\n“I want to have an open dialogue with our citizens to find
\nout their goals and concerns for Crowley.
\n
\n“As I have stated before, some of the things I want to
\naccomplish include better pay for firefighters and police, adding
\nmore firefighters and police, careful budgeting of gas lease
\nrevenue, beautifying Main Street and working with [the Crowley
\nYouth Association] to help youth programs grow. I want to thank my
\nhusband, children and supporters for all their hard work. I could
\nnot have won this election without you. I also want to congratulate
\nTina Pace on her re-election to the council.”
\n
\nMullis has served on the planning and zoning board for three years
\nand has lived in Crowley for seven years.
\n
\n“I’m fine with the results; I went at it pretty
\nlow-key,” opponent Flynn said.
\n
\nMullis is a qualified candidate with ample experience for the
\nposition, he said.
\n
\nFlynn, a 10 year resident of Crowley, decided to run in response to
\nmembers of the community who urged him to take his passion for
\nparks and recreation to the council.
\n
\nFor three years he has served as president of the Crowley Youth
\nAssociation, and he said he is still eager to actively work toward
\nbuilding strong parks and recreation programs.
