Velma Mullis Simpson celebrated her 101st birthday

Velma Mullis Simpson celebrated her 101st birthday on Feb. 19.
“It feels like a dream,” she said.
“I do not feel like I can possibly be 101 years old.”
A birthday party given by Kaleen and Tommy Shaver was held at Kaleen’s Beauty Shop on County Line Road just outside Locust on Feb. 11.
“Velma has been coming here to get her hair done for a great many years,” said Kaleen Shaver.
The Shavers wanted to so something special to celebrate Simpson’s 101st birthday. They decided an impromptu birthday party would be just the thing to help Simpson celebrate a milestone birthday.
